Blaui Pepperoni - 5.5% Raspberry Sour (PD x Bierlab)
A few weeks ago, our pals at Bierlab in Zurich popped over to brew a sour with us and introduced us to a Bierlab tradition – naming all their collabs after pop songs.
Naturally, we took this as an opportunity to dive into the world of Swiss pop and discovered Blaui Pepperoni, a 2014 Swiss-German hit by Lo & Leduc, which pairs upbeat synthy pop with surprisingly bleak lyrics.
Meaning ‘blue pepper’, Blaui Pepperoni is a pure raspberry sour. Pouring a deep ruby red, it’s juicy and tart, with a little sweetness to soften the edges.
For the label, Nanna took cues from the bold, graphic work of Italian artist Enzo Mari – a small nod to the Swiss-German use of the Italian ‘Pepperoni’ for pepper, rather than the German ‘Paprika’.
