Chef/Baker

Location: Forest Gate (340 Sheridan Rd, London E7 9EF)
Salary: £16.50 - £18ph, depending on experience 
Hours: 40pw

At Pretty Decent Beer Co. we’re a family-run brewery obsessed with modern, progressive, seasonal beer, and the food that goes with it.

We currently have three taprooms in East London, and are ready to launch our new pan pizza concept in our OG arch in Forest Gate. We're looking for a vibrant and enthusiastic Chef or Baker - someone who enjoys creative freedom, is passionate about seasonal ingredients and is excited at the thought of slinging proper grandma-style pizza pies fresh from the oven.

The Role

The role will be varied, and alongside making and preparing food, you’ll be involved in operational tasks such as ordering, financials and training team members. The right person will be tenacious and eager to deliver brilliant hospitality through a custom- made pizza hatch, to people drinking in our neighbourhood taproom next door.

You will become an integral part of the Pretty Decent team, helping bring our extensive recipe development to life with the potential to eventually lead the food offering across other sites, as we grow. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in the product and is eager to bring the best pan pizza concept to the people of Forest Gate. 


Kitchen Leadership & Management

  • Lead and inspire a small team of chefs and KP’s

  • Recruit, train & mentor junior team members

  • Oversee smooth service & prep

  • Build rotas

  • Maintain a positive kitchen culture

Menu Development

  • Preparing pizza dough (including non-gluten), sauces, and toppings according to recipes, with the ability to develop interesting monthly specials

  • Creating simple but delicious desserts (think cookies, ice cream sandwiches, tiramisu, etc.) 

  • Design dishes that complement new beer releases and events.

  • Plan, test & cost specials, so margins stay healthy.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Own stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships

  • Hit GP targets, minimise waste, and track margins

  • Be on top of food safety, hygiene, and allergens

  • Maintain kit and cleanliness to EHO standards

Collaboration

  • Good communication and teamwork skills, working closely with GM and bar team

  • Eager to build relationships with customers and create a loyal following

  • Excited about working in a start-up environment and having opportunities to make an impact from the beginning

     

What We’re Looking For

  • Experienced chef or baker and experience in a fast-paced, casual-dining setup

  • Confident running a kitchen solo and bringing others along for the ride

  • Sharp on margins, suppliers, and seasonality

  • Creativity, flexibility, and a genuine love for good food

  • Level 2/3 Food Hygiene (or willing to get it)
